Why prescribe	Prescribed to treat fluid retention (refractory edema) in people with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or a kidney disorder called nephrotic syndrome. This medication is also used to treat or prevent hypokalemia (low potassium levels in the blood).
Recommended Dosage	Congestive cardiac failure with oedema - Adult - For management of oedema an initial daily dose is 100 mg . Severe heart failure - Adult - Initial dose of spironolactone - 25 mg once daily Hepatic cirrhosis with ascites and oedema - Adult - If urinary Na+ per K+ ratio is greater than 1.0, 100 mg per day . Malignant ascites - Adult - Initial dose 100 mg per day. The dose may increase to 200 mg per day Nephrotic syndrome - Usual dose - 100 mg per day to 200mg per day.
Directions of Usage	Should be taken once daily with a meal.
Route of administration	ORAL
Contra Indications	Inadvisable for patients with acute renal insufficiency, significant renal compromise, anuria,Addisons disease,hyperkalaemia,hypersensitivity to spironolactone.
Storage Conditions	Store at room temperature.

Caution should be exercised in condition by monitoring Fluid and electrolyte balance,Urea,Hyperkalaemia in Patients with Severe Heart Failure etc.

urinating less than usual or not at all; shallow breathing; tremors

confusion; nausea

dark urine

clay-colour stools

jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or severe skin reaction -- fever

sore throat

swelling in your face or tongue

burning in your eyes

skin pain

followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.
