Why prescribe	Prescribe to treat mental depression that occurs with anxiety or nervous tension.
Recommended Dosage	Depression- Adult- Initial dose, 50 to 75 mg/day as a single dose (at bedtime) or in divided doses.The dose may increase gradually to 150 mg/day. Maximum dose- 300 mg/day in severe depression. Child- (Adolescent) Initial dose, 25 to 50 mg/day as a single dose (at bedtime) or in divided doses. Elderly- Initial dose, 25 to 50 mg/day as a single dose (at bedtime) or in divided doses.
Directions of Usage	As directed by physician.
Route of administration	ORAL
Contra Indications	Inadvisable for the patient with hypersensitivity to amitriptyline, recent MI, arrhythmias (particularly heart block), mania.
Storage Conditions	Store at room temperature and in an airtight container.

Caution should be exercised in conditions like epilepsy or seizure disorder, thyroid disorder, kidney or liver disease, heart disease, bipolar disorder (manic-depression), a history of suicidal thoughts or behavior, narrow-angle glaucoma or problems with urination.
