Why prescribe	Prescribed for bipolar disorder, epilepsy and to prevent migraine headache.
Recommended Dosage	Prophylaxis of migraine- Adult- Initial dose- 250 mg twice a day. Maximum dose- 1 g/day. The dose may increase up to- 1 g once daily as per condition. Usual range- 500-1000 mg/day. Elderly- Initiate at lower dose and increase slowly. Acute manic episodes of bipolar disorder- Adult- Initial dose- 750 mg/day in divided doses or 25 mg/kg once daily as extended release.The dose may increase up to 50-125 mcg/mL. Maximum dose- 60 mg/kg/day. Elderly- Initiate at lower dose and increase slowly. Complex partial seizures- Adult- Above 10 year. Initial dose- 10-15 mg/kg/day in 2-4 divided doses.The dose may increased upto 5-10 mg/kg/week. Maximum dose- 60 mg/kg/day. Child- Above 20 kg, 400 mg/day in 2 divided doses,.The dose may increase gradually until control is achieved. Usual range- 20-30 mg/kg/day. Maximum dose- 35 mg/kg/day. Less than -20 kg- 20 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses.The dose may increase up to 40 mg/kg/day. Elderly- Initiate at lower dose and increase slowly.
Directions of Usage	Should be taken with or without food.
Route of administration	ORAL
Contra Indications	Inadvisable for patients with hypersensitivity.
Storage Conditions	Store at room temperature.
