Why prescribe	Prescribed for herpes zoster (shingles), genital herpes and herpes labialis (cold sores).
Recommended Dosage	Herpes zoster (shingles) Adult- 1 g 3 times daily for 7 days. Herpes simplex infections of skin and mucous membranes Adult- 500 mg 2 times daily for 3-5 days for recurrent episodes or up to 10 days for initial episodes. Child-(Above 12 yrs) Same as adult dose. Genital herpes Adult- 500 mg bid for 3-5 days for recurrent episodes or up to 10 days for initial episodes. Child-(Above 12 yrs) Same as adult dose. Herpes labialis Adult- 2 g 12 hourly for 1 day. Child-(Above 12 yrs) Same as adult dose. Suppression of recurrent herpes simplex Adult- 500 mg daily as a single or in 2 divided doses. Child- (Above 12 yrs) Same as adult dose.
Directions of Usage	Should be taken with or without food.
Route of administration	ORAL
Contra Indications	Inadvisable for the patients with hypersensitivity.
Storage Conditions	Store at room temperature.
